Q. Please share your experience of how you OVERCAME OBSTACLES OR STRUGGLES in your life?
A. When my paternal-grandmother died was my first experience of crying over the death of a love one. I had plenty of family members who died prior, but I manage to hold the tears in each time. However, when my grandmother died I couldn't stop crying. It felt like years worth of tears were finally coming out. She died the semester before I was going to graduate from college and it felt awful that she wouldn't be able to see me cross the stage. To help numb the pain, I decided to write a poem about the story of her death. 8 years later I got my Ph.D. and I turned the poem into lyrics for my first song called "Marked and Scarred". This single ended up being a Urban AC radio hit and placed on the top 25 of the Billboard Best Adult R&B Songs.
